You should train the positions that you ask your body to go in. If your day to day life involves you flexing and extending at the spine then you should be strong in those positions. Let’s talk about that a little more..
If your body spends a ton of time in ‘desk job posture’ or cranking your neck go look up, you’re telling your body what is important to you. That’s not a bad thing inherently, but you are then placed with a follow up decision.
Will you spend time gaining strength in postures that find yourself in every day?
The more freedom of motion your spine has, the better it’ll become at dealing with different postures you put it through.
For the spine, the fundamental movement is flexion extension. Take time to develop each vertebrae’s control in these motions both passively and actively. For some people that can reduce pain symptoms. Pain in your neck/back has been debilitating for so many people.
Ask yourself if you’re really putting effort into improving the health of your spine, or just glossing over it and just training the structures that surround it.
